Pet Travel Regulations in Atlantic City, New Jersey

When traveling with your pet to New Jersey, there are a few important regulations and tips to keep in mind:

    • Dogs must have a health certificate (Certificate of Veterinary Inspection or CVI) from a vet licensed in the country or state they’re coming from. This certificate should be issued within 30 days of travel.
    • Dogs that are sick or have been exposed to sickness can’t come into New Jersey until they’re treated, get better, and a vet says they’re disease-free.
    • Even though New Jersey doesn’t specifically ask for rabies vaccination for dogs coming in, the law says all dogs 7 months or older must be licensed where they live. To get this license, they need to have a current rabies vaccination.
    • If you’re bringing in a dog that’s licensed in another state and you plan to stay in New Jersey for 90 days or more, you need to get a New Jersey dog license right away.
    • If you’re bringing in an unlicensed dog and you plan to stay for 10 days or more, you need to get a license right away.
    • There aren’t special rules for bringing cats into New Jersey, but it’s a good idea to vaccinate them against rabies. Many places in New Jersey ask for cats to be licensed, too.
    • Dogs and cats that look sick when they arrive might be checked by a vet, kept apart from others, and treated at the owner’s cost.
    • Most airlines need a health certificate for any animal flying with them.

Check with the local animal control for any additional regulations or requirements specific to your destination within Atlantic City or New Jersey.

Pet Laws in Atlantic City, New Jersey

In Atlantic City, New Jersey, here are the rules for owning a dog:

    • Bringing Dogs into Atlantic City: If you bring a licensed dog from another state into Atlantic City and plan to stay for more than 90 days, you must apply for a local license and tag immediately. If you bring an unlicensed dog into the city and plan to stay for more than 10 days, you must also apply for a license and tag immediately.
    • Dog Licensing: You must get a license for your dog from the City Clerk. This is done by applying and paying a fee.
    • Registration Tag: Each year in January, dog owners must get a new license and a metal registration tag for their dogs. The tag should be attached to the dog’s collar or harness.
    • Applying for a License: If you get a new dog or your dog turns old enough to need a license, you must apply for a license and registration tag within 10 days.
    • Control of Dogs: Dogs must not be allowed to run at large on public streets, parks, buildings, or other public places. They must be on a leash or in a crate when outside their owner’s property.
    • Muzzles: From May 1 to October 1, dogs must wear a muzzle when in public places.
    • Dogs on the Boardwalk and Beaches: Dogs are not allowed on the Boardwalk, public beaches, or in the ocean between Memorial Day and September 15.
    • Damage to Property: Dog owners are responsible for any damage their dogs do to lawns, shrubbery, flowers, or other property.
